Tata PETID! Bonjour PSRSD! J

Before we can actually bid PETID goodbye, we were asked to do some clerical works. Punch and fasten modules that are to be used in training programs somewhere. We said goodbye to Ma’am Thess and other employees and to the library that accommodated us for the past 15 days. The library became the interns hub. Yeah, I kinda felt that strong attachment with the library—feels cozy, private and spacious. The library heard all our complaints, our laughters… that Library.

Moving on, I, Famela Joy Dahonog says “Hello PSRSD” and thinking of the pressure is on its way… “Hello po Ma’am”.

A QUANTITATIVE TEST.

After doing some clerical job, we were assigned to do some statistical treatment. Flashbacks. We remind ourselves from all the lessons we learned in our statistics class and the chapter 4 of our thesis. Since four minds are working the work was done in no time. It feels great to apply the things you’ve acquired from school. The work we did shows that the things we learn remain in our minds. There are times that you get a little confused but it’s good that you have people who will help you to remember the things you’ve learned. Well, that is the sole purpose of internship right? To know if you can apply the lessons you get from school, if you can handle the work related to the course you chose and to also learn from the employees at the workplace. They are the people who will help you when you don’t know how to do things since they already have been doing it. J

PAPER WORKS FILED UP.

We encode names, mailing address, contact numbers and birthdates of persons who filled up the Barkada Kontra Droga forms. We did it all day, all afternoon. Oh a day isn’t enough to finish this. Tons of paper work awaits our tomorrow. God, give us grace.

AH YES!

We’re done with the narrative report hooray! We hope that the results would be given good feedback. All of the things we put in there are based on mere observations and what we believe is for the betterment of the program launching in the future. We also hope that they may take it in consideration our recommendations even if we are only interns.

I’M HALF WAY THERE.

Almost done making the narrative report for the monitoring we made during the BKD Launching in Nueva Ecija. We’ll finish it tomorrow and pass it next week since Ma’am Thess is out-of-town. Other than finishing our narrative report, we also did arrange files in the office.
Woohoo! Nakakakalahati na ako sa 25 days ko na ipapamalagi sa DDB. YES!

GOOD DAY.

We have lots of stories from our trip last Saturday! We’re really happy to have new friends, to experience field work out of town and apply the monitoring scheme we worked on for a week. Now, back to work, new task on the way. Now that we have monitored the launching of Barkada Kontra Droga in Nueva Ecija, it is a procedure that after that you have to make a narrative report. Well of course, monitoring will not be complete without it. It would be like putting ketchup on your fries and not eat it. So all day, Carmela and I worked on our narrative report.

STOKED.
Welcome to Central Luzon State University.

I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS INTERNSHIP WILL TAKE ME TO NUEVA ECIJA LIKE SERIOUSLY I’M ON CAPS LOCK!!! We’re so happy that we were given a chance to do field work in Nueva Ecija. This is all I ever wanted! To go to different places and do field work. I just love the feeling.

I arrived early of course. Blood’s rushing because of excitement I felt like a kid na ngayon lang makakalabas haha! J This is so great!  I’m wearing a Barkada Kontra Droga shirt and hop off the bus of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) ha! I feel so proud of myself never have I imagined I’ll be working with this agency and now I’m riding at their bus haha.

Now after hours on the road, we finally reached our destination, the Central Luzon State University. What a nice state U. Parang U.P. lang oh pero mas maganda (my opinion, respect) at mas presko. Oh sarap! Breathe in. Breathe out. Fresh air, how I long to inhale thee. As we enter the room where the launching will be held, I have seen how privileged the students are; the rooms are in good condition as well as the chairs and fans. I envied them. No wonder why kids in the provinces are well taught than those in the city. Anyway, as the launching-slash-seminar started, Carmela and I started to monitor the flow of the program of BKD. This is where we used the monitoring scheme we made last week. We did a lot of observations, comments and suggestions and of course photo documentation.

As for the extras, sorry I can’t get over with the thought that I’m in out-of-town, thanks to my internship! So there, happy moments are when we had a chance to explore some parts of the university, applied what we worked on and learned back in PUP-COC and the dinner with our ma’ams and sirs. What an experience indeed! J

ENCOOOOOOOODE ALL DAY LOOOOOONG.

To be honest, this task is easy the hard part here is that there are too many to encode and its cold making it hard to fight the urge to sleep. I believe you know the feeling. So yeah, before the working hour end we printed out the edited monitoring scheme.

MARK THIS DAY.

Early this morning, Carmela and I presented the powerpoint presentation we made yesterday. I’m honored to see that our boss was pleased. She liked it. By the way, the presentation is about life skills and good communication skills.

Previously, I said “mark this day” ever wondered why? Well, there are two simple reasons. One, I already said in the preceding paragraph and the other was… well, I HAVE MY I.D! Haha yeah I know, ang babaw but whatever haha finally have my identification card oh yes! Ang laki nga lang, it’s like an Ayyyyydeeeee... lol. I enjoyed this day.  J

POWERPOINT MAKING WITH CARMELA.

Ooooh I love doing powerpoint presentations. I have yet to master the software but it’s one of my favorites. So I felt enthusiastic when we were asked to make a powerpoint presentation.

A SIGH OF RELIEF.

We’re still working on with the monitoring scheme. Received an approval from Ma’am Thess and she asked us to make few revisions but the monitoring scheme is okay na *ching!*. It feels great to see your boss smiled while reading your work. J

NOT THE USUAL WORKING DAY.

Before lunch time, Carmela and I finished planning for the monitoring scheme. We plan on consulting it to our boss before the day ends. We were asked to watch short films made by Marikeňos. The privilege to critic each film and give our thoughts on which is better to present during the program launch were given to us, interns. We weren't able to finish watching all the films since there were a lot, so I think we'll continue our viewing probably on Monday.

We joined the staff meeting during which we were formally introduced to all the staff in the Preventive Education, Training and Information Division. After the meeting, there was a feast in our tummies! Talking about birthdays of personnel uh? :) Thank you! What a way to welcome and end our first week of Internship. 32 hours down, 168 to go! WE CAN DO THIS! :D Excited for next week! We'll be joining the team to Nueva Ecija on Saturday--our first field work, alright! :D

A BLAST IN MY BRAIN!

Begun the day brainstorming AGAIN with my partner Carmela. Finally started writing our planned monitoring scheme. I'd like to post our plan here but I'll post it the moment everything is finished, consulted and polished. :)

Hadn't move my muscles that much kinda felt my chair burning though because I and Carmela did a lot of thinking. A lot of writing. A lot of arguing--peaceful arguments. We actually made an observation guide for the participants and for the over-all flow of the program. We planned for the scheme all-day long.

Also, we were introduced to the Chief of Policy Studies, Research and Statistics Division Ms. Virginia Balmes. Carmela and I will be spending our next 13 days with her and the division.

BRAINSTORM: Monitoring Scheme 101!

Started the day working our minds out squeezing those brain cells to produce the right monitoring scheme to use for the upcoming launch of Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) in Central Luzon State University in Nueva Ecija. I brought with me my photocopies and notes from our Comm Plan and Comm Evaluation subject. Had a hard time thinking on how to start planning for the monitoring scheme. Had a series of talks with the two interns on the venue's background since the launching will be held on their school and they already had a chance to join previous launching of the same program in other places in the Metro, so I consulted them about the flow of the program, how it is being utilized, how possible the monitoring can be, what kind of participants will attend the launching and other queries associated with that.

I needed a break. Good thing, I was asked to encode names and contact details of BKD members. I had a long list of people so I was typing until the end of my duty.

I think, the week's task is a MAJOR test of patience for me and my partner Carmela. We have few more days to go before the launching. Got to muster a lot of patience and pray harder. We can do this! :)

FIRST DAY!!!

Since, it's my first day and allow me to say that I am early. *ching!* ;) I Chill. I Relax. I let my mind think of possible things I will do during my 13-day stay on the Preventive Education, Training and Information Division (PETID).

While waiting at the hallway I met two interns who happened to be working on the same division. They were the ones who accompanied me to meet the chief officer, my future boss. After a while, Ms. Teresita Pineda called me to come to her office. She interviewed me briefly about myself and school stuffs. She oriented me on how things are going in the office, what are the things I'm supposed to do and also, what activities I can be involved in my 13-day stay on their division. I was asked to read evaluation and monitoring studies conducted by the department and the regulations and amendments to the Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 9165 so that at least I may have a background on what the process is all about.

Before the day ends, I had the chance to greet the Executive Director of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), Usec. Edgar Galvante. We, along with the whole staff of the division had a long chat with the E.D. about the current financial status of the project--Barkada Kontra Droga. He gave the division some words of encouragement and a piece of assurance that the program and/or the project will still continue on. The meeting wasn't all that serious since the purpose of our visit was to greet the Executive Director a "Happy New Year". :)

As I examine myself throughout the day, how I cope up with the schedule, with the travel, with the things I'm about to do. I think I'm still in the stage where I'm in the "adjustment period" well, what was I expecting? To be honest, my thoughts were like, "First day! On with this. Will do this. Will start doing that." things like that but yeah, it's not what I have been expecting. I hope this "adjustment period" I'm calling will not exceed to more than a week. :D I'm on to doing things now! I think I'm ready. I wanna get this done. I wanna start thinking. I wanna start tapping my toes to some field works. LET'S GET IT ON! :)
